Your Commute Options
Georgia State University is the most accessible campus by public transit in the entire state. Our Atlanta Campus is served by three MARTA train stations, all four train lines, and soon, MARTA’s Rapid-A Bus Rapid Transit line. Every building on the Atlanta Campus is within one mile of a MARTA train station, and four of GSU’s five Perimeter College campuses are served by MARTA. We encourage commuters and visitors alike to explore alternatives to driving to and parking on campus.
To that end, Georgia State has partnered with the Atlanta Regional Commission to promote their Georgia Commute Options (GCO) program. By downloading the MyGCO app, users can record “clean commutes” they take—anything other than single occupancy driving, such as carpooling, public transit, biking, etc.—and receive points in the app that can be redeemed for rewards such as raffle entries for tickets to concerts or sporting events. The app also shows users how much money they save by not driving as well as their contributions towards reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Members who sign up with their GSU email will have access to a GSU network where they can carpool with other Panthers, redeem GSU-exclusive rewards, and get tailored directions to our campuses from wherever they’re coming from. Sign up today!
How to Use Regional Transit
MARTA’s UPass program allows GSU students, staff, and faculty to purchase a Breeze Card with a discounted monthly pass through GSU’s parking portal. A monthly pass through UPass is $61 for students and $77 for employees. Breeze Cards using the UPass program will not transfer to CobbLinc, Ride Gwinnett, or Xpress — trips are only unlimited within the MARTA bus/train system. Those who combine trips on MARTA with trips on regional bus services should use the Breeze Mobile 2.0 app; see the other tabs for details.
Those enrolling in UPass at the Atlanta Campus can pick up a Breeze Card from the Campus Services counter (located in Student Center West 200) and use the parking portal to pay for a monthly pass. Those at the Perimeter Campus can purchase monthly passes directly from the Campus Cashier Offices. Monthly Breeze Card renewals are only available between the 1st and 15th of each month for the following month.
Employees have the additional option to enroll in UPass via payroll deduction, also for $77. To do so, fill out the MARTA Breeze Card Payroll Deduction Form and submit it through the link provided in the form. The pass will then be automatically loaded to the card every month. To cancel payroll deduction, use the same form and check “Cancel the monthly amount for a MARTA Pass.”
Monthly pass renewals for Breeze Cards issued by GSU can also be purchased at a MARTA kiosk, though they will be more expensive than through the parking portal. Students renewing at a MARTA kiosk will pay $68.50, and employees will pay $83.80. Purchases before the 23rd of each month will only work for the current month, and purchases on or after the 23rd will only work for the following month.
There is a limited protection plan on all Breeze Cards purchased. As long as the card is reported lost, stolen, damaged or non-functional before the 22nd of each month to Campus Services, the card can be replaced, and the current month’s benefit will be transferred to the new card. There is a $10 administrative fee for replacement. Cards reported lost, stolen, damaged or non-functional after the 22nd of the month or cards reloaded at MARTA kiosks may not be covered under MARTA’s protection plan.

Alternatively, a physical Breeze card can be used and reloaded online at https://www.breezecard.com/ or in-person at a MARTA kiosk. Those who use a physical Breeze card should reload the card by “adding cash value” instead of adding individual trips. To pay, just hold your phone or Breeze Card up to the reader when you get on the bus.
Commuters from Cobb County can also use Xpress route 476 (South/West Cobb via US-278) or route 484 (Kennesaw/Acworth via I-75). See the Xpress tab for more information.

Each Xpress route serves at least one MARTA station, and many service the Atlanta Campus directly. An up-to-date route map can be found here. For more information, go to https://xpressga.com/.
Xpress users should use the Breeze Mobile 2.0 app and purchase trips through the app, as the app will let you transfer seamlessly between MARTA, CobbLinc, Ride Gwinnett, and Xpress, as well as give you the automatic round-trip discount if buying a one-day round-trip Xpress pass.
